A resident of Fort Lauderdale for 12 years, a graduate of Plantation High School, a thoughtful and hardworking Democrat, a man who earned a reputation for his integrity, intelligence, and industriousness, a resourceful man who has earned the confidence and respect of his colleagues these words have all been used to describe Alain Valias-Jean.
Alain's father, Edward Jean, was born and raised in the Caribbean Island of Haiti. Determined to seek a better life, Edward Jean moved with his wife Emie to Brooklyn, New York where Alain was born on September 16, 1973. |

Ultimately, they moved to the beautiful and sunny Fort Lauderdale, Florida. While Alain attended Plantation High School, Edward his father worked at Plantation General Hospital where he later became a model employee. Although they lived modestly, Alain was determined to pursue a college education. In 1994, Alain courageously packed his bags and went to Alabama State
University in Montgomery, Alabama, where he knew no one. Alain studied and excelled in political science, specializing in the American Legal System. Alain received his degree in 1998 through Federal Pell Grants and work-study programs. Besides the knowledge of a formal education, Alain learned a fundamental lesson that anything is possible and government should and can help people. Alain is currently an aide to Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi, a prominent and well respected member of the powerful House Appropriation Committee, who is predicted to be the Majority Whip when Democrats take back the House next year, making her the third most powerful member in the U.S. House of Representatives. Alain has handled issues ranging from Federal Employees to Environmental Justice. Now, with plenty of support from his family, friends, community leaders, and Democrats alike, Alain has returned home to the community he loves in Fort Lauderdale, FL to give back and help those who need it the most. Alain is convinced that people from his generation must assume the responsibilities of leadership and lead the way into the new Millennium. Alain plans to focus on devoting time and energy to improving schools and providing greater educational opportunities, ensuring quality and affordable health care, strengthening social security, increasing property values and decreasing crime, and seeking innovative ideas for economic development in our part of Florida. | |
